Succulent Wild Woman
SARK’s incredibly juicy, loving manifestos to self-care, creativity and sucking the marrow out of life never disappoint. Succulent Wild Woman: Dancing With Your Wonder-Full Self is a SARK (Susan Ariel Rainbow Kennedy) classic, her “glowing invitation to live a rich, succulent life.” Topics range from wight to romance, money to creativity, fear, sexuality, love and more.
The book’s chapters, or “Menu Selections,” cover a multitude of vibrant and enriching topics to include in your life, such as going on outrageous adventures without money (SARK is famous for staying in expensive hotels, beaches and other places with little to no money), or creative expression through storytelling, journaling, using costumes and painting.
More fun topics include vibrators, eroticism, living without (or with) money, and simply living a wonder-full, wild life. SARK uses quotations, insightful observations, and of course her trademark art to convey these artistic and creative notions.
Deeper, more personal topics are also discussed, such as radical self-acceptance and the importance of breasts in the fat section, the importance of marrying yourself first, self-healing and therapy, and feeling safe in the world as a woman.
SARK also profiles some of her favorite “succulent wild women,” including her friends and her mother, and also discusses the importance of women having friendships—and creating women’s groups to stay connected and support one another.
SARK says the book is like reading her own diary, but with permission. “This book is my glowing invitation to you,” she says at her website, PlanetSark.com, “to live a rich, succulent life! Succulence is powerFull! And so are we as women.”
Included are her normal gorgeous, “succulent” posters as well, such as “Being a Succulent Wild Woman,” “How to Paint,” and “How to Forgive Your Father.” As usual, each features art and inspiring words, such as, “Marry yourself first, promise never to leave you,” and “Be rare, eccentric and original.”
Like most traditional SARK books, each chapter ends with a plethora of resources, such as books and music to inspire your further and make the topic carry over into your life.
“We, in this world, and this weary old world itself, have a gaping need for SARK,” says Maya Angelou. I couldn’t agree more. SARK is about more than just empowerment and reclaiming your own identity in a world that sometimes makes it difficult to do so. She’s about living life to the fullest through wild, outrageous adventures—whether they be traveling off to far away lands or watching snails make love. She is simply the guru of living—sort of like that guy in Yes Man, but the real deal.
